DAY 1

Overview: Leading Innovation Organizations

  • Develop a clear understanding of how to develop and incentivize your workforce, change culture, hire the right talent, and utilize resources to accelerate innovation and tech adoption

  • Learn about commercial innovation methodologies, such as Design Thinking, Agile Development, Lean Startup, crowdsourcing, and pitch competitions.

Understanding the Strategic Technology Landscape

  • Examine the evolution of technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and blockchain, and why they matter to the DoD mission today

  • Learn about the business models of the technology industry and academia to understand the dynamics and incentives for partnering with industry

  • Identify areas of your mission to evolve and how to define problems to facilitate tech injection

Identify and prioritize opportunities for innovation in your organization

  • Understand commercial business methodologies, such as design thinking, lean startup, agile and product management, and how those should be applied to your workforce

  • Examine how to transform culture, incentivize innovation, and develop staff to create a forward leaning organization

DAY 2

Overview: Overcoming Internal and External Barriers

  • Apply agile procurement process for rapid adoption of tech through acquisition waivers, Other Transaction Authorities, FAR Part 12, and other existing authorities

  • Learn how to design and deliver prototypes that launch in 2-3 months

Preparing for Tech Adoption

  • Identify what data and technology infrastructure is needed and how to evolve your current systems

  • Learn how to leverage cloud computing effectively and securely

  • Know how to ask the right questions of your technology leaders

  • Understand how to navigate and overcome complex compliance and security requirements

Adaptive Acquisitions: a comprehensive framework for innovation

  • What rapid procurement vehicles exist and how to leverage them: Other Transaction Authorities (OTAs), Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs), Sole Source Justifications, Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADAs), Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), etc.

  • Using the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation (DFAR), such as FAR Parts 12 and 15, to accomplish innovation goals

  • How to lead teams and innovation across disparate organizations, budgets, and programs

  • How to effectively use waivers and exceptions to speed adoption including leveraging new procurement authorities

  • When and how to leverage hiring authorities to strengthen your technical talent pool

  • Hear case studies of missions supported by emerging tech and lessons learned

  • Understand the role of technology accelerators, incubators, and ‘werx’ programs for finding viable solutions

  • Hear how venture capitalists manage and view risk when making forward leaning investments

  • ROUNDTABLES: Meaningful discussions with venture capitalists and creators of some of the world’s leading emerging technologies to see the Art of the Possible.
